Former DIG Bhullar moves High Court again, seeks quashing of FIR and stay on probe

Gurpreet Singh :- Former Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar has once again approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court, challenging the FIR registered against him and seeking immediate relief from the ongoing investigation.

In his petition, Bhullar has sought quashing of the FIR, a stay on further investigation and interim protection till the final adjudication of the matter. He contended that the case registered against him was contrary to established legal procedure and had caused serious damage to his reputation.

The former DIG has termed his arrest, the FIR and the subsequent investigation as unconstitutional. He urged the court to halt all further proceedings in the case until the petition is finally decided.

Bhullar further argued that under a 2020 notification issued by the Punjab Government, no action could be initiated against a Punjab cadre officer without prior consent of the state government. On this basis, he questioned the legality of the proceedings initiated against him.

The High Court has issued notices to the Punjab Government, the CBI and the Centre, seeking their responses by May 26. The matter is expected to come up for hearing shortly, with the state likely to place its stand before the court during the proceedings.
