The defending champions faced a determined Iranian side that kept the contest close and refused to allow India an easy route to victory. The pressure remained high until the final minutes, when India managed to hold its advantage and close out the match.
Arjun Deshwal and Jaideep made valuable contributions in attack, producing crucial raids when India needed points. Their efforts helped the team stay ahead during several difficult phases of the contest.
At the other end, Sumit emerged as one of India’s key defensive performers. His successful tackles repeatedly halted Iranian attacks and helped India withstand the pressure during the closing stages.
Iran continued to push for a comeback, but India maintained its composure and protected its lead. The 40-34 result ultimately handed the Indian men their latest Asian Games kabaddi title.
The victory also took India’s tally to nine men’s kabaddi gold medals in Asian Games history, further adding to the country’s record in the discipline.
India had already celebrated success in women’s kabaddi earlier in the Games. With both teams securing gold, the country completed a memorable sweep in the sport at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games.
