Railways Increase AC Capacity on Popular Routes to Ease Summer Travel Rush

Punjab Told to Expedite Land Acquisition for Rajpura–Mohali Railway Line

Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): Passengers travelling on some of Northern Railway’s busiest routes are set to benefit from additional seating capacity as extra air-conditioned coaches have been introduced on select trains for a limited period. The initiative is expected to reduce waiting lists and improve the availability of confirmed tickets during the peak travel season.

The temporary augmentation covers five prominent services, including the Jammu Rajdhani Express, Swarna Shatabdi Express, Humsafar Express and other long-distance trains connecting northern India with major destinations. The added 3AC coaches will create nearly 72 extra berths per train, allowing more passengers to secure reservations.

Railway authorities said the decision was taken after observing a sharp rise in passenger demand during the summer months, especially on routes serving Jammu and pilgrimage destinations. Officials believe the additional coaches will provide greater convenience for families, tourists and regular commuters while ensuring smoother travel operations.

The extra coaches will operate on notified dates between June and August, depending on the respective train schedules. Travelers have been advised to check updated coach compositions and reservation details before commencing their journey to avoid any inconvenience.

Officials also encouraged passengers to rely on official railway platforms, including the IRCTC portal, the Rail Madad service and the 139 enquiry helpline, for the latest travel information. The move reflects the Railways’ continued focus on strengthening passenger services by responding to seasonal demand with improved capacity and enhanced travel comfort.
