Australian NRI Sunil Sharma Vanishes With Car After Arriving to Sell Property, Police Yet to Crack Case

Amritsar (Gurpreet Singh): Panic and anger are growing among family members after NRI Sunil Sharma a 66 year old Australian mathematics teacher from Melbourne who vanished in Amritsar, disappeared nearly one week ago while visiting Punjab to reportedly sell his ancestral property. Sharma has been missing along with his vehicle since May 21, raising fears of kidnapping and organized criminal involvement.

According to relatives, Sharma had travelled from Australia to Punjab for property-related work. He was last seen leaving for a meeting connected to the sale of property, but never returned home. Since then, his phone has remained unreachable and there has been no contact with him.

The family has alleged that the case may involve kidnapping or foul play targeting NRIs involved in property transactions. Relatives have also questioned the functioning of Amritsar Rural Police, alleging delay, lack of transparency, and failure to provide clear information regarding the investigation. A family member stated, “Sunil Sharma came to Punjab trusting the system, but now he has disappeared without any trace. We fear he may have been kidnapped. Every passing day is increasing our anxiety, but we are not getting satisfactory answers.”

The incident has triggered fear among NRI families, especially those returning to Punjab to handle property matters. Community members have demanded immediate intervention from senior Punjab Police officials and the state government. Responding to the allegations, police officials said that the investigation is active and several teams have been formed to trace Sharma and his vehicle. Officials stated that CCTV footage, mobile phone records, toll plaza data, and possible movement routes are being examined. Police added that all possible angles, including abduction and criminal conspiracy, are under investigation.

Despite the assurances, the continued disappearance of the NRI for over a week has intensified pressure on Amritsar Rural Police, with the family demanding urgent breakthroughs and accountability.
