Chandigarh (Rajeev Sharma): Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal MP AAP raised serious concerns over a suspicious phone call allegedly made in the name of Amit Shah and demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.
Calling the incident “highly questionable,” the Aam Aadmi Party MP said such tactics reflected “dirty and desperate politics” allegedly being used against AAP leaders.
In a statement, Dr. Chabbewal said he had been receiving birthday wishes throughout the morning when he received an unusual call around 8:45 AM. According to him, the caller first asked, “Is it AAP MP Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal ji speaking?” After he confirmed his identity, the caller allegedly informed him that Union Home Minister Amit Shah wanted to speak with him. Dr. Chabbewal said he agreed to continue the call, following which another voice came on the line wishing him a happy birthday and congratulating him. The caller then reportedly asked about his whereabouts. When the MP informed him that he was in Hoshiarpur within his Lok Sabha constituency, the caller allegedly said, “Whenever you come to Delhi, make sure you meet me.”
The AAP MP stated that while the conversation initially appeared normal, several aspects immediately raised suspicion. He pointed out that official calls from the Union Home Ministry generally come from recognized landline numbers, whereas this call originated from an unusual number. He further said the voice claiming to be that of the Home Minister did not sound authentic.
“From the very beginning, something about the call felt unusual and suspicious. The voice did not sound genuine and the entire sequence appeared questionable,” Dr. Chabbewal said.
Considering the seriousness of the issue, Dr. Chabbewal said he has formally approached the SSP in Hoshiarpur seeking a detailed investigation into the matter. He demanded that authorities identify the origin, intent, and individuals behind the suspicious communication. The MP further alleged that the incident exposed “backdoor politics and pressure tactics” being used against opposition leaders. He asserted that AAP leaders would neither be intimidated nor trapped by such methods.
Dr. Chabbewal also said that if anyone is misusing the name of constitutional authorities or senior political leaders for political maneuvering, it is an extremely serious matter that warrants a full investigation.
