Punjab Weather Update: Rain Likely from October 28 as Yellow Alert Warns of Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds

Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): Punjab is likely to experience a spell of unsettled weather over the next few days, with rain, thunderstorms and strong winds forecast in several parts of the state between October 28 and 30. The change is expected to follow a dry day on October 27, while cooler mornings and evenings are already bringing a noticeable chill.

According to the weather forecast provided, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the possibility of adverse weather. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and winds reaching 30 to 40 kmph are possible on October 29 and 30.

The forecast also points to the influence of a weather system identified as cyclonic storm ‘Arnab’. Residents should keep track of official updates as conditions may vary across districts.

Western Disturbance may trigger weather change

A Western Disturbance is currently influencing the region, with a cyclonic circulation located over northern Haryana at an altitude of approximately 3.1 to 4.5 kilometres. Another Western Disturbance is expected to affect northwestern India from the night of October 27, potentially bringing rain and stormy conditions to Punjab and neighbouring areas.

Despite the approaching weather system, no rainfall was recorded at major weather stations during the preceding 24 hours. Conditions remained dry across the region.

Faridkot records highest daytime temperature

Temperatures continue to show a clear contrast between sunny afternoons and cooler nights. Faridkot recorded one of the highest maximum temperatures in the state at around 33°C, while Pathankot reported a minimum of 11.7°C.

Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 31.4°C and a minimum of 15°C. In Amritsar, the mercury reached 28.5°C during the day before falling to 14.9°C at night.

Ludhiana registered a high of 30.4°C and a low of 15.6°C, while Patiala recorded 31.4°C and 14.7°C, respectively.

The difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures has made the weather feel relatively warm under sunshine but noticeably cooler during early mornings and evenings. Daytime temperatures across the region were reported to have edged up slightly.

Residents advised to monitor updates

With rain and thunderstorms possible later this week, people across Punjab and Chandigarh should follow the latest weather bulletins, particularly for October 29 and 30, when lightning and gusty winds are forecast.

The anticipated change could bring temporary relief from the lingering daytime warmth, although local conditions will depend on the movement and strength of the approaching weather systems.
