Tarn Taran (Gurpreet Singh): A village dispute in Tarn Taran turned fatal after a 45-year-old man was allegedly shot during a confrontation between two groups in Gaggobua.
The victim, Navdeep Singh, was the husband of Shiromani Akali Dal sarpanch Kulwinder Kaur of Gaggobua village, which comes under the Chabal police station jurisdiction.
According to police, tensions between two groups escalated on Friday night. During the confrontation, Surinder Singh alias Sonu Kanda, a jewellery shop owner in the village, allegedly fired at Navdeep.
Navdeep suffered critical injuries and was being taken to a hospital when he died on the way, police said.
Authorities have named three people as accused in connection with the shooting — Surinder Singh alias Sonu Kanda, Nirmal Singh Nimma and Arshdeep Singh.
A case has been registered under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant sections of the Arms Act. Police teams have been conducting raids at suspected locations in an effort to apprehend the accused.
DSP City Sukhbir Singh said the preliminary inquiry indicates that the shooting stemmed from a dispute between the two village groups. He also clarified that investigators have not found any political or gangster-related angle in the incident.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the confrontation and are working to establish the sequence of events that led to the fatal shooting.
