Calgary (Rajeev Sharma): Gobind Sarvar School Calgary is preparing to mark the sacred occasion of the First Parkash of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji with a special Mediathon and Community Gathering on Sunday, September 13, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The gathering will be held at Darbar Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, 8730 45 Street N.E., Calgary, bringing together families, community members and supporters for a day dedicated to faith, education, community service and building a stronger future for generations to come.
The First Parkash of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji took place in 1604, with the compilation of the sacred scripture by Sahib Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji. Organizers are presenting the occasion as both “A Sacred Occasion” and “A Community Mission,” connecting the spiritual significance of the day with an important community-building initiative.
As part of the event, Gobind Sarvar Calgary is launching the “Acres for Our Future” campaign, with a goal of raising $1 million toward the down payment for the purchase of land located behind the existing Gurdwara Sahib and Gobind Sarvar School. The proposed expansion will support the next phase of Gobind Sarvar School while creating a dedicated Community Centre to serve the broader community.
The proposed Community Centre is envisioned as a welcoming space for people of all generations and will include a library, conference and seminar hall, spaces for social gatherings and community activities, along with facilities designed to support the educational and social needs of the community.
Organizers say the initiative is more than an expansion project—it is an investment in the future of children, families and the wider community. The campaign carries the message: “Your support today builds tomorrow’s legacy. Donate generously. Support generations.”
As part of the Mediathon, National Times Media Group, along with other media houses, will be supporting and promoting the initiative and helping share the vision of the “Acres for Our Future” campaign with the wider community. Through its media platforms, National Times will support awareness of the initiative and encourage community members to come together in support of education, community development and future generations.
The Mediathon and Community Gathering will provide an opportunity for community members, organizations, businesses and supporters to learn more about the vision, participate in the program and contribute toward the “Acres for Our Future” mission.
