Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Haryana Higher Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda chaired a comprehensive review meeting of the Higher Education Council at the Technical Education Department in Panchkula. The session focused on evaluating the physical infrastructure, academic quality, and progress of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 implementation across universities and higher education institutions in the state.
Addressing officials, Minister Mahipal Dhanda reaffirmed that providing world-class facilities and modern educational infrastructure to students remains a top priority for the state government. He emphasized that an encouraging, resource-rich academic environment is essential for delivering quality education, stating that the government aims to offer global-standard learning opportunities to Haryana’s youth within the state.
The meeting featured a detailed qualitative and quantitative assessment of the steps taken by state universities to roll out NEP 2020. The Minister directed department heads and university representatives to execute all policy measures within fixed timelines to ensure students reap the full long-term benefits of the framework.
To drive effective outcomes, discussions centered on granting greater academic and administrative autonomy to qualifying institutions, enabling them to foster innovation and advanced research. The council also reviewed Institutional Development Plans (IDPs), governance models, and monitoring frameworks. Minister Dhanda instructed officers to establish transparent mechanisms to ensure developmental plans translate into concrete on-ground results rather than remaining limited to paperwork.
Emphasizing a joined-up approach to education reform, progress reports were presented by the School Education Department, Skill Development and Industrial Training Department, and the Women and Child Development Department. The Minister called for seamless inter-departmental coordination to create an integrated educational pathway spanning early childhood care through higher and skill education. The meeting was attended by Higher Education Council Chairman Kailash Chandra Sharma, Women and Child Development Department Director Dr. Priyanka Soni, along with university Vice-Chancellors and senior administrative officials.
