Ranchi (Rajeev Sharma): The alleged irregularities in Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) examinations have taken a new turn with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) registering an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR), officials said.
The development brings the central agency into a controversy that has already drawn scrutiny over claims of wrongdoing in the conduct of JPSC examinations.
The registration of an ECIR formally records the ED’s decision to examine the matter from the perspective of offences falling within its jurisdiction. The agency can subsequently investigate financial transactions, money trails and other material that may be relevant to suspected proceeds of crime.
The latest action is significant as the JPSC examination controversy has been the subject of allegations and protests in the state. Students have raised concerns over the alleged irregularities and demanded accountability from the authorities.
Officials confirmed the registration of the ECIR but did not immediately disclose details regarding the specific transactions, individuals or entities that may come under the agency’s scanner.
The ED’s investigation is expected to establish whether any financial irregularities are linked to the allegations surrounding the examination process. Further action, including the examination of documents or questioning of persons connected with the case, will depend on the findings of the probe.
The registration of the ECIR does not by itself establish wrongdoing by any individual or organisation. The allegations will have to be examined during the course of the investigation.
