Amritpal Singh’s Mother Stops CM Mann’s Convoy in Amritsar, Demands Transfer of Detainees to Punjab

Gurpreet Singh :- Amritsar witnessed dramatic scenes on Thursday during Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s visit when Balwinder Kaur, mother of Member of Parliament Amritpal Singh, approached the Chief Minister’s convoy and raised questions over the continued detention of her son and other youths outside Punjab.

According to sources, the incident took place while the Chief Minister’s cavalcade was passing through parts of the city. Balwinder Kaur managed to reach near the convoy and urged the Punjab government to bring the detainees back to jails within the state. She questioned why Punjabi youths were still being kept away from their home state despite repeated demands from their families.

Speaking to the media after the incident, she said her son and several others were lodged in Dibrugarh Jail in Assam and alleged that families had been forced to suffer for a prolonged period. She appealed to the state government to intervene and ensure their transfer to Punjab.

It may be recalled that Amritpal Singh and his associates were detained under the National Security Act following the Ajnala incident and subsequent police crackdown. While the NSA provisions in some cases have reportedly lapsed, investigations linked to various Punjab Police cases are still underway. However, the detainees continue to remain lodged in Assam’s Dibrugarh Central Jail.
