Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday launched a fierce attack on the Aam Aadmi Party MPs who have reportedly joined hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party, accusing them of betraying Punjab and abandoning the trust of the people.
Responding to reports of a merger involving a section of AAP’s Rajya Sabha members with the BJP, Mann questioned the legitimacy and motives of the leaders involved, asserting they do not speak for Punjab.
Without mincing words, the Chief Minister termed the MPs joining the BJP as “traitors” and said their actions were against the mandate given to them by the people.
Mann also accused the BJP of engineering political splits to weaken opposition parties, alleging the same strategy had been used in several regional and national parties.
He claimed the BJP was attempting to expand through defections rather than public support and maintained the party has no real political footing in Punjab.
The Punjab Chief Minister’s remarks come amid heightened political turbulence following claims that a group led by Raghav Chadha has moved towards a merger with the BJP, a development that has stirred sharp reactions within AAP and beyond.
The controversy is expected to intensify as political responses continue to pour in over the dramatic realignment.
