New Delhi (Gurpreet Singh): In a transformative shift for the Indian political landscape, Raghav Chadha officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today, April 24, 2026. Accompanied by prominent organizational strategists Sandeep Pathak and Ashok Mittal, Chadha was formally inducted into the party at its national headquarters in New Delhi. The ceremony was overseen by BJP National President Nitin Nabin, marking a historic exodus of the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) core intellectual and strategic leadership.
During a press briefing following his induction, Chadha explained that while only the three of them were physically present at the headquarters for the ceremony, they represent a decisive legislative merger. He announced that seven out of 10 AAP Rajya Sabha MPs have formally aligned with the BJP. By securing this seven-member bloc, the defectors have successfully met the two-thirds requirement mandated by the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution, allowing them to join the BJP while retaining their parliamentary status without the threat of disqualification.
Chadha, previously a key national spokesperson, was joined by Pathak, the architect of AAP’s 2022 Punjab victory, and Mittal, the Chancellor of Lovely Professional University. Addressing the media, Chadha remarked that he had finally found his way to the correct platform after being the “right man in the wrong party” for many years. He expressed complete faith in the national vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This significant political maneuver effectively reduces AAP’s strength in the Rajya Sabha to just three members, drastically weakening its voice in the Upper House ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly polls.
