Alberta Minister Rajan Sawhney Attends Republic Day Celebrations in Goa, Meets Indian and State Leaders

GOA (Rajeev Sharma): Alberta Cabinet Minister Rajan Sawhney attended India’s Republic Day celebrations in the state of Goa as part of her official visit to India, joining senior Indian leadership including the Governor of Goa, the Chief Minister of Goa, several state ministers, and Shri Shripad Naik, Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Government of India. Minister Sawhney was accompanied by UCP party members Happy Maan and Jatinder Tatla from Alberta, who were also part of the delegation participating in the Republic Day event.

Her visit forms part of Alberta’s international outreach aimed at strengthening ties with India in key sectors such as energy, renewable power, infrastructure, and trade cooperation. The Republic Day event provided an opportunity for high-level engagement and discussions on shared priorities, including sustainable development and clean energy initiatives.

In addition to the Republic Day celebrations, Minister Sawhney is also attending India Energy Week, taking place from January 27 to 30, 2026, at the ONGC Advanced Training Institute in Goa, India. The international energy forum brings together government representatives, industry leaders, and policy experts to discuss energy security, renewable power, and future-focused energy solutions. Her participation in India Energy Week underscores Alberta’s interest in expanding international partnerships in both traditional and clean energy sectors, and in promoting innovation, sustainability, and responsible energy development.

Goa’s leadership highlighted the state’s growing focus on renewable energy and infrastructure modernization, while Alberta emphasized its experience in energy innovation and diversification. The interactions reflected increasing sub-national diplomacy between Canadian provinces and Indian states. Minister Sawhney’s presence alongside Indian central and state leaders underscores the importance of people-to-people connections and institutional partnerships between Alberta and India.

Minister Sawhney is on a multi-city tour of India, where she is scheduled to meet government officials, business representatives, and community leaders to explore avenues for collaboration and investment between Alberta and India.

Her participation in the Republic Day event and India Energy Week in Goa added symbolic and strategic significance to the visit, highlighting shared democratic values and the importance of international cooperation in addressing global challenges such as energy security and climate change.
