Chandigarh (Naval Kishore): MY Bharat Chandigarh (Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India), organised the “Walk for Nasha Mukt Yuva” today at Gandhi Bhawan, Panjab University, under the theme Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat, as part of the 100 Weeks Nasha Mukt Yuva Abhiyan. More than 350 participants took part in the event.
The programme began at 5:30 am with a session of warm-up, Zumba and rhythmic yoga led by Ms. Sarika, MY Bharat Volunteer and Yoga Trainer, which energised the participants for the day.
In the formal programme that followed, Sh. Shivdhan Sharma, UT Director, MY Bharat, welcomed the guests and participants. MY Bharat-NSS volunteers from Govt. College of Education, Sector 20, then presented a nukkad natak highlighting the harmful effects of substance abuse and the role of youth in building a drug-free society.
Sh. Vinay Kumar, District Youth Officer, MY Bharat Chandigarh, administered the Nasha Mukt Yuva Pledge to all participants in a Shapath Chakra, with everyone resolving to stay away from drugs and to inspire others to do the same.
Prof. (Dr.) Meenakshi Goyal, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, was the Chief Guest and flagged off the Walk for Nasha Mukt Yuva. Dr. Nemi Chand Golia, State NSS Officer, Chandigarh Administration, graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. Dr. Anupam Bahri, NSS Programme Coordinator, Panjab University, delivered the Vote of Thanks.
After the walk, participants signed the signature wall as a mark of their commitment to a drug-free society. Certificates and refreshments were then distributed to all participants.
The event reflected the collective resolve of youth, educational institutions and government agencies to spread awareness against drug abuse and to build a healthy, drug-free and Viksit Bharat.
