Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): In a development that could alter political alignments in Punjab, five seasoned politicians are expected to formally join the Bharatiya Janata Party later today, according to sources familiar with the plans.
The group is said to include a former Member of Parliament, a former legislator and two individuals who earlier served as Officers on Special Duty to senior political figures in the state. Their induction is likely to take place in the presence of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, underscoring the significance the BJP is attaching to the move.
Although the party has not yet disclosed the identities of the leaders, the expected crossover has already sparked discussion within political circles, given the experience and networks these figures bring with them. Observers see the development as part of the BJP’s broader strategy to consolidate its footprint in Punjab.
Party functionaries said a formal event is planned later in the day, where the leaders will be welcomed into the party and may outline their future roles. The induction is being viewed as an effort to add depth to the BJP’s leadership pool in the state as it seeks to expand its influence.
