LK Advani Hospitalised In Delhi With Chest Infection, 98-Year-Old BJP Veteran Stable

New Delhi (Gurpreet Singh): Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former deputy prime minister Lal Krishna Advani was admitted to Apollo Hospital in New Delhi on Friday evening after complaining of a chest infection. The 98-year-old leader is undergoing treatment and his condition is stable, according to officials familiar with the matter.

Advani was brought to the hospital at around 7:30 pm on October 16 and admitted to the pulmonary department, where a team of doctors is monitoring his condition. Hospital officials said he remains stable and is receiving medical care.

The latest hospitalisation comes months after Advani was admitted to the same hospital for age-related health concerns. The veteran politician has undergone medical evaluations and brief hospital stays in recent years.

Why Was LK Advani Admitted To Apollo Hospital?

According to officials familiar with the matter, Advani was admitted after complaining of a chest infection. He is currently under observation in the pulmonary department.

No further details about the treatment or the expected duration of his hospital stay were immediately available. Officials have said that his condition is stable.

Advani, one of the senior-most leaders associated with the BJP’s rise in Indian politics, has largely stayed away from active public engagements in recent years.

LK Advani’s Previous Hospitalisations

This is not the first time Advani has been admitted to Apollo Hospital in Delhi. In May 2026, he was reportedly hospitalised for age-related health issues and remained there for a few days before being discharged.

In December 2024, he was admitted to the intensive care unit of Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals for medical management and investigations. The hospital had said at the time that he was stable and under the care of senior consultant neurologist Dr Vinit Suri.

Advani was also admitted to Apollo Hospital in July and August 2024. In June that year, he received treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi for age-related health concerns and was discharged after a brief stay.

PM Narendra Modi Met LK Advani Days Before Hospitalisation

Advani’s latest hospitalisation comes days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited him at his residence and sought his blessings.

Sharing details of the meeting on X, Modi praised Advani’s decades of public service and his contribution to India’s national life. He also acknowledged the veteran leader’s role in strengthening the country’s progress.

The meeting drew attention to Advani’s enduring place in Indian politics, where he served in several senior positions, including deputy prime minister and Union home minister during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led government.

Advani was also among the BJP’s key leaders during its expansion into a major national political force. In March 2024, he was conferred the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award.

For now, Advani remains under medical supervision at Apollo Hospital. Officials have said his condition is stable as he continues to receive treatment for the chest infection.
