PM Modi Honors Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at Statue of Unity on National Unity Day

Narmada (Rajeev Sharma): Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on Friday at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat, marking the 150th birth anniversary of the statesman credited with uniting India after Independence.

Reaching Ekta Nagar in the morning, the Prime Minister offered floral tributes at the 182-metre statue, which stands as a towering tribute to Patel’s vision of a united nation. Following the ceremony, he attended a special function nearby, where he led the gathering in taking the Ekta Diwas pledge to uphold the spirit of national integration and unity.

Since 2014, October 31 has been observed as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) to commemorate Patel’s monumental role in the consolidation of India’s princely states. This year’s celebrations included a vibrant cultural program and a parade showcasing contingents from the police and paramilitary forces.

Speaking at the event, the Prime Minister highlighted Patel’s dedication to building a strong and cohesive India, describing him as a symbol of courage, discipline, and integrity. He urged citizens to follow Patel’s example by working together to preserve peace and harmony in the country.

The Statue of Unity, unveiled in 2018, has become a global landmark and a source of national pride. On this occasion, it once again served as a reminder of Patel’s unparalleled contribution to India’s unity and his enduring influence on the nation’s collective spirit.
