Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): In a bid to ensure that every road built in Punjab meets the highest standards, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has introduced a special CM Flying Squad to monitor the quality of road construction and repair work throughout the state.
The new inspection team, comprising senior officials from the Punjab Mandi Board and the Public Works Department (PWD), will conduct surprise visits to check the progress and quality of work under the ongoing link road development program. The government’s objective is to guarantee transparency, curb irregularities, and ensure durable infrastructure.
Senior Engineers to Lead Regional Monitoring
The squad will be led by four Superintending Engineers — Davinder Singh, Baldev Singh, Manpreet Singh Dua, and Rajiv Saini — who have been assigned to oversee operations in the Malwa, Majha, and Doaba regions. They will be responsible for assessing the quality of materials, ensuring proper road layering, and verifying that projects follow government-approved specifications.
Recently, Chief Minister Mann had inaugurated the link road repair initiative covering 19,492 kilometres, starting from Tarn Taran district. The project, which carries a total budget of ₹3,425 crore, aims to improve rural connectivity and support agricultural transportation by revamping Punjab’s vast network of internal roads.
Ensuring Accountability and Transparency
The flying squads will carry out on-the-spot inspections and file detailed reports directly to the Chief Minister’s Office. If any irregularities or poor-quality work are detected, strict action will be taken against the responsible officials or contractors.
“Roads are the lifelines of Punjab’s villages and towns. Every rupee spent on their construction must be visible in the final outcome. We will not tolerate substandard work,” said CM Bhagwant Mann while addressing reporters in Chandigarh.
Strengthening Rural Connectivity
Officials believe that this proactive approach will help improve the longevity of roads and prevent early damage caused by poor construction practices. With Punjab being a largely agrarian state, well-maintained link roads are critical for farmers to transport their produce efficiently.
By deploying this special monitoring unit, the Mann government aims to instill greater discipline and efficiency in public works — ensuring that development projects deliver real, lasting benefits to the people of Punjab.
