Randhawa, Warring, Majithia, Balkaur Singh l Receive Threat Messages Amid Row Over ‘Lawrence of Punjab

Gurpreet Singh :- Former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has received a threat message allegedly from the Lawrence Bishnoi group, shortly after he publicly opposed the release of the controversial documentary/web series ‘Lawrence of Punjab’ and demanded a ban on it. Randhawa has informed Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav about the development.

Reacting strongly, Randhawa alleged that gangsters continue to operate with the backing of central agencies. He questioned how Lawrence Bishnoi, currently lodged in Sabarmati Jail in Gujarat, remains active and capable of issuing threats. He also raised concerns over reports of Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, lodged in Dibrugarh Jail, allegedly having access to mobile phones, terming it a serious lapse.

Sources indicate that similar threat messages were sent via WhatsApp to several prominent figures, including Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia, Balkaur Singh—father of slain singer Sidhu Moosewala—and DGP Gaurav Yadav.

Condemning the threats, Warring said the Congress would take the fight against gangsterism to a decisive stage, asserting that a “gangster-free Punjab” remains a top priority for the party. He also stated that following strong public opposition, the Government of India has put the release of the web series on hold.

The incident has once again brought the issue of organised crime and alleged lapses in prison security into sharp focus, raising serious questions about the continued influence of incarcerated gangsters.
