CBI Expands Probe Against Suspended Punjab DIG Bhullar; Court Clears Use of Evidence, Decision on Daily Trial on April 27

Gurpreet Singh :- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is set to widen its probe into the alleged corruption network linked to suspended Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar, with a special CBI court in Chandigarh granting approval to expand the scope of investigation.

The court has permitted the agency to use crucial documents, cash and electronic records seized during the main trap case as part of a fresh preliminary enquiry (PE). This new probe will focus on independent instances of alleged bribery transactions, involving several unidentified public servants and private individuals.

Special CBI Judge Bhawna Jain, in her order, allowed the agency to utilise mobile phones, diaries and other recovered material in connection with the PE registered on February 19. The court will now take up, on April 27, the agency’s plea seeking a day-to-day trial against Bhullar and his associate Krishanu Sharda under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. If approved, the move is expected to expedite proceedings in the case.

Bhullar was arrested on October 16, 2025, in a bribery case, and has since been facing mounting legal challenges. The CBI had also registered a disproportionate assets case against him, which has reached the Supreme Court. Apart from the corruption charges, multiple other cases are reportedly pending against the former officer, further complicating his legal position.
