Shimla (Rajeev Sharma): Heavy monsoon showers continued to disrupt normal activities across Himachal Pradesh, with several districts reporting water-related problems, road blockages and weather-related incidents over the past day.
Dalhousie witnessed intense rainfall in the morning, prompting the local administration to order the closure of all educational institutions in the area. The decision was taken as a safety measure amid concerns over worsening weather conditions.
The impact of the rainfall was also felt in Kinnaur, where a landslide near Chaura led to the closure of National Highway-5. The highway remained blocked after debris fell onto the road, leaving vehicles stranded in long queues on both sides. The disruption affected a crucial route connecting Kinnaur with Shimla.
A tragic incident was reported from the Salooni region of Chamba district, where a woman went missing after being swept away by the strong current of a seasonal stream. According to reports, she was returning home after grazing sheep and goats when the incident occurred. Rescue teams have been searching for her, but she remains untraceable.
Several other areas of the state also experienced heavy rainfall. Dharamshala recorded the highest precipitation at 147.1 mm, while Bhatiyat in Chamba received 75.3 mm of rain. In Kangra, intense showers temporarily affected electricity supply in some locations.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed Bilaspur, Kangra, Solan and Sirmaur districts under a yellow alert, warning of heavy rainfall in these areas. The weather department has predicted continued monsoon activity in Himachal Pradesh until August 5.
Officials said most parts of the state are likely to experience light to moderate rain during this period, with isolated spells of intense showers. While temperatures are expected to remain stable in areas receiving rainfall, regions witnessing clear spells could see a temperature increase of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.
Authorities have urged people to avoid unnecessary travel in landslide-prone areas and remain alert as rainfall activity continues across the hill state.
