New Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday called for widespread public involvement in the upcoming Census 2027, describing it as a collective national responsibility during the latest episode of Mann Ki Baat.
Emphasising the importance of accurate data collection, Modi said citizens would play a key role in ensuring the success of the exercise. He assured that personal information gathered during the census would remain secure and confidential. The process, he explained, will involve digital tools, with enumerators visiting households using mobile applications. Additionally, people will have the option to submit their details online ahead of these visits and receive a verification ID for validation.
Alongside governance issues, the Prime Minister reflected on global tensions and urged people to draw inspiration from the teachings of Gautama Buddha. Stressing the relevance of peace and self-discipline in today’s uncertain world, he said Buddha’s philosophy continues to offer guidance in times of conflict.
Modi also extended greetings ahead of Buddha Purnima and highlighted the growing global interest in Buddhist teachings, noting initiatives even outside India that promote these values.
During the address, the Prime Minister touched upon cultural and scientific achievements as well. He praised the Beating Retreat ceremony as a symbol of India’s rich musical traditions and commended the armed forces’ bands for their performances. He also lauded Indian scientists for advancements in the country’s nuclear programme, particularly progress at the Kalpakkam facility.
The address blended themes of civic participation, cultural pride, and global harmony, with the Prime Minister urging citizens to contribute actively to nation-building efforts.
