Suspect Identified in Washington Shooting Incident; Federal Charges Filed

Washington (Rajeev Sharma): Authorities in Washington, D.C. have identified 31-year-old Cole Thomas Allen as the individual taken into custody following the security breach and shooting near the White House Correspondents’ Dinner attended by Donald Trump.

The incident unfolded outside the Washington Hilton, where a large gathering of political leaders, journalists, and guests was underway. Investigators said the suspect attempted to push through a secured checkpoint but was intercepted before reaching the main event hall.

Law enforcement officials reported that Allen was carrying multiple weapons, including firearms and knives. During the confrontation, security personnel engaged him, and a Secret Service officer was struck but protected by a bullet-resistant vest. The officer is said to be in stable condition.

According to officials, Allen is believed to have acted alone. He was apprehended at the scene and later taken for medical evaluation. Federal agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, have launched a detailed probe into his background, motives, and possible links.

Preliminary information from publicly available profiles suggests that Allen has an academic and technical background, having studied engineering and computer science, and was associated with teaching and independent projects. However, authorities have not officially confirmed these details.

Jeanine Pirro stated that the suspect is expected to face multiple charges, including use of a firearm during a violent act and assault on a federal officer. He is scheduled to be presented in court shortly.

Officials credited the swift response of the United States Secret Service for preventing a potentially serious attack. The case has once again raised concerns over security at high-profile events and the need for constant vigilance.

Investigations are ongoing as agencies work to piece together the full sequence of events and ensure there are no further threats.
