Evian (Gurpreet Singh): Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump shared a brief interaction on Tuesday during the 52nd G7 Summit in Evian, France, marking their first face-to-face meeting since the Prime Minister’s visit to Washington in February last year.
The interaction took place shortly after the traditional family photograph on the second day of the summit, ahead of the G7 outreach session involving member nations and invited partner countries.
Visuals from the summit showed Prime Minister Modi and President Trump exchanging a handshake, with the US President also patting the Prime Minister on the arm as leaders gathered following the official group photograph. The two leaders were later seated side by side during the outreach session.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed Prime Minister Modi upon his arrival at the summit venue. Following the welcome ceremony, the Prime Minister joined leaders of G7 nations and partner countries for the customary family photograph.
The group photo featured several prominent world leaders, including European Council President Antonio Costa, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, US President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
Prime Minister Modi arrived in the French city on Tuesday after receiving a special invitation from French President Emmanuel Macron. This marks India’s 13th participation as a partner nation at the G7 Summit and the seventh consecutive time Prime Minister Modi has attended the global gathering.
Before arriving in France, the Prime Minister made a brief stop in Geneva, Switzerland, where he met Swiss Confederation President Guy Parmelin as part of his ongoing European diplomatic engagements.
On the sidelines of the summit, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to hold several bilateral meetings with world leaders, including Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
A highly anticipated bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Modi and President Trump is also expected on June 17. According to the White House, discussions are likely to focus on advancing the proposed India-US trade agreement and strengthening bilateral cooperation.
The G7 outreach session brings together leaders from G7 member countries, partner nations and heads of major international financial institutions, including the World Bank and the African Development Bank. Discussions are expected to focus on international cooperation, sustainable development and key global economic challenges.
