Dehradun (Rajeev Sharma): Persistent rainfall across parts of Uttarakhand has caused the Tamsa River to swell, leading to a sharp increase in the water flow through the historic Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple in Dehradun. The situation developed after continuous rain overnight, following a heavy rainfall alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
With the river flowing at a much higher level than usual, officials have stepped up monitoring around the temple and nearby vulnerable locations. The administration has urged devotees and visitors to remain cautious and avoid venturing close to the river until conditions stabilise.
The surge in the river has drawn the attention of local authorities, who are keeping emergency teams on standby in view of the ongoing spell of rain. Officials have also appealed to residents living near riverbanks and low-lying areas to stay alert and follow weather-related advisories.
The IMD has forecast continued rainfall in several parts of the state over the coming days, raising the possibility of further increases in river levels. Authorities have advised people to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall and to rely only on official updates for weather and safety information.
