Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): A decision to prepare the Regional Plan 2041 for the National Capital Region (NCR) and develop four new Greenfield “Namo Cities” along Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) corridors was taken during the 42nd meeting of the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) held in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The meeting was chaired by Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal and attended by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister A.K. Sharma and Rajasthan Urban Local Bodies Minister Jhabar Singh Kharra.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said extensive discussions were held on key issues related to the development of the National Capital Region. He informed that the board decided to maintain the existing geographical boundaries of the NCR, with no changes proposed to its current area.
The Chief Minister said the meeting focused on the proposed Regional Plan 2041, which will serve as a roadmap for the future development of the NCR. Discussions covered urban planning, environmental protection, infrastructure expansion and sustainable growth across the region.
To finalize the Regional Plan 2041, a sub-committee comprising senior officials from the Central Government and the governments of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi has been constituted. The committee has been tasked with submitting its final report to the board by August 15, 2026.
Saini also announced that the next meeting of the National Capital Region Planning Board will be hosted in Gurugram, Haryana, in December 2026.
One of the major decisions taken during the meeting was the development of four new Greenfield cities along the RRTS network. Each participating state will submit a proposal for one new Greenfield city. These urban centres, to be developed under the name “Namo City,” are envisioned as modern, environmentally sustainable and self-reliant cities equipped with advanced infrastructure and connectivity.
The Haryana Chief Minister said the decisions taken by the board would ensure balanced and integrated development across the Delhi-NCR region. He reiterated that the Haryana Government considers NCR development a top priority and will actively support the implementation of Greenfield city projects and RRTS infrastructure initiatives.
Senior officials present at the meeting included Haryana Chief Principal Secretary Rajesh Khullar, Haryana Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs Srinivas Katikithala, Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways V.
