Calgary ( Rajeev Sharma): A heavy police presence remains in northwest Calgary after a fatal shooting outside the North Hill Co-op on Monday evening. According to the Calgary Police Service, officers responded around 7:50 p.m. on May 11, 2026, to reports of gunshots in the parking lot of the grocery store located at 520 – 16 Avenue N.W.
When officers arrived, two men were found suffering from gunshot wounds and were rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition. Police later confirmed that one of the victims has died. Investigators say the suspects fled the scene before police arrived and no arrests have been made so far. However, police believe the shooting was targeted and stated there is currently no ongoing threat to the public. During the incident, the store was temporarily placed under lockdown to protect staff and customers. The lockdown has since been lifted.
Authorities are asking residents to avoid the area while investigators continue processing the scene.
“We fully recognize the impact of brazen, violent acts on the larger community,” said Duty Inspector Darren Smith. “Public safety is our number one priority, and Calgarians deserve to feel safe at all times in their communities.”
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the shooting, or who may have dashcam or CCTV footage from the area at the time, to contact Calgary Police at 403-266-1234 or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.
