New Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised citizens for embracing responsible lifestyle choices in response to his recent appeal amid the ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia, saying the country has demonstrated remarkable unity and civic responsibility during a challenging period.
Speaking in the 135th edition of Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister said people from across India have voluntarily altered their daily routines after he urged them to minimise non-essential spending, particularly on gold purchases, and adopt measures that support the national interest.
Modi said the overwhelming response from citizens reflects the strength of collective participation. According to him, numerous families have informed him that they have postponed buying new gold jewellery for weddings and other celebrations. Instead, many have chosen to remodel existing ornaments, a decision he described as both practical and responsible.
The Prime Minister also highlighted how the spirit of cooperation has extended to everyday life. He noted that many office-goers and commuters travelling along similar routes have started sharing vehicles through carpooling, helping reduce fuel consumption while promoting a sense of community.
Another trend that caught the Prime Minister’s attention was the decision by several people to defer overseas travel plans. He said many citizens shared on social media that they had voluntarily postponed foreign trips in response to the prevailing international situation.
Calling these efforts inspiring, Modi said such small individual decisions collectively contribute to strengthening the nation. He added that these examples prove that when the country faces extraordinary circumstances, people willingly come forward to support larger national goals.
Expressing gratitude to the public, the Prime Minister said the response has reinforced his belief that India’s greatest strength lies in the awareness, discipline and solidarity displayed by its citizens during times of uncertainty.
