Tehran (Rajeev Sharma): Iran has claimed responsibility for launching a large-scale missile and drone offensive against American military positions in the Gulf, saying the strikes were carried out in retaliation for the latest US military action targeting Iranian assets.
In a statement issued by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and broadcast through Iranian state media, the elite force said its naval and aerospace units jointly executed the operation during the early hours of Sunday.
The IRGC alleged that ballistic missiles and armed drones were fired at the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait and the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain’s Port Salman. According to the statement, eight military installations linked to the United States were successfully hit during the operation.
Iran described the strikes as a measured military response to what it called continued American aggression, asserting that its armed forces would not remain silent if its territory or interests were targeted.
The IRGC maintained that the overnight operation demonstrated the country’s military capabilities and warned that any future attacks by the United States would invite a stronger response.
The latest claims come as tensions between Tehran and Washington remain at one of their highest levels in recent years, with repeated military exchanges raising concerns about a broader regional conflict. The Gulf region has remained under heightened security alert amid fears that hostilities could disrupt strategic shipping routes and regional stability.
While Iranian authorities have projected the operation as a successful retaliatory strike, there has been no official confirmation from US defence officials regarding the alleged damage. Authorities in Kuwait and Bahrain have also not publicly commented on the claims at the time of reporting.
The incident is expected to intensify diplomatic and military concerns across West Asia, with global powers closely monitoring developments for signs of further escalation.
