Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has demanded a high-level, High Court-monitored probe into the recent attack on party president Sukhbir Singh Badal at a gurdwara in Nanded, Maharashtra. Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh, senior SAD leaders Balwinder Singh Bhundar, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema, and Arshdeep Singh Kler urged that the inquiry cover potential intelligence and security lapses alongside the overarching conspiracy behind the incident.
Party leadership asserted that whenever the SAD gains political momentum, inimical forces orchestrate violent attempts to destabilize the Panthic leadership. Highlighting that this was not an isolated event, the leaders recalled the previous attack on Badal near the Golden Temple premises in Amritsar. They argued that an impartial probe into the earlier incident could have prevented the Nanded assault, insisting that any fresh investigation link both occurrences due to similar execution templates and underlying intentions to weaken the SAD.
Dr. Cheema criticized political opponents, including the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leadership, Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan, and Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, for attempting to link the assault to the 2015 Bargari sacrilege and Behbal Kalan firing incidents. He alleged that irresponsible statements from these figures effectively aligned them with the aggressor rather than the victim, accusing the AAP-led administration of provoking public sentiment and risking state harmony.
Expressing gratitude for Badal’s safety, the SAD leadership reiterated its commitment to communal harmony and peace across the state, calling on the public to remain vigilant against attempts to politicize the attack.
