Gurugram (Balwinder Singh)— Addressing a press conference in Gurugram on Sunday, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini emphasized that political differences must never compromise the dignity and credibility of the nation’s constitutional institutions. Urging the opposition to present concrete evidence before raising questions about autonomous bodies like the Election Commission of India, Saini stated that modern democratic discourse requires evidence-based debate rather than unsubstantiated allegations.
The Chief Minister asserted that pillars of Indian democracy such as the Election Commission, the Supreme Court, and the Comptroller and Auditor General do not belong to any single administration or political front, but represent the collective foundation of the country. Accompanied by Haryana Industries and Commerce Minister Rao Narbir Singh, Sohna MLA Tejpal Tanwar, Pataudi MLA Bimla Chaudhary, and Chief Minister’s Media Advisor Rajiv Jaitly, Saini said that while questioning the government is a fundamental right of the opposition, targeting autonomous bodies without verification damages public trust in democratic systems.
Reflecting on recent criticisms raised by Congress and its allies regarding the electoral process, Saini pointed out that the Election Commission operates transparently to safeguard the franchise of every eligible voter. Addressing concerns regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), he noted that the Commission had clearly communicated guidelines following orders issued in June 2025. He refuted claims regarding Form-6 and declaration requirements, affirming that verification procedures remain open, accessible, and structured through booth-level officers visiting households to assist residents.
Invoking former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s maxim that governments and elections come and go while the nation remains eternal, Saini cautioned that questioning institutions merely because an election outcome was unfavourable is unhealthy for the democratic order. He maintained that democracy thrives on clean and transparent electoral rolls, impartial conduct of polls, and robust participation across all segments of society.
Highlighting central governance achievements over the past 12 years under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Saini pointed to the widespread delivery of housing, clean drinking water, subsidized LPG, health coverage through Ayushman Bharat, and direct income support to farmers. He argued that the political empowerment of marginalized citizens has been further mirrored in Jammu and Kashmir, where the abrogation of Article 370 expanded grassroots democratic participation and rights for local communities.
Turning his attention to the wider region, the Chief Minister criticized both the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party for their historical handling of the substance abuse crisis in neighbouring Punjab. He alleged that previous and current dispensations failed to implement decisive measures against illicit narcotics networks, leaving youth vulnerable. Saini concluded by urging all political formations to elevate public dialogue, exercise prudence on sensitive national security topics, and collectively protect the integrity of democratic institutions.
