Saharanpur (Gurpreet Singh): An Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and his driver were killed, while four others sustained injuries after their vehicle hit a road divider and collided head-on with an oncoming car in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur district. The fatal accident occurred on the Dehradun-Panchkula National Highway within the Sarsawa police station limits as the officer’s vehicle was travelling towards Ambala in Haryana following the completion of a training program in Mussoorie.
The deceased have been identified as 52-year-old ITBP DIG Parminder Singh, originally hailing from Ropar in Punjab and posted in Srinagar, and his 35-year-old driver Ramsharan. According to police officials, the sports utility vehicle carrying the officer lost control, crashed into the median barrier, and crossed over into the opposite lane, where it collided directly with an approaching car.
The impact severely injured the DIG’s gunner, Jayram, alongside three occupants of the other vehicle, identified as Gurunanak Singh, Devendra Kaur, and Gurnam Singh. Emergency response personnel and local police quickly arrived at the scene, using ambulances to transport all individuals to the government medical college in Pilkhani, where attending doctors declared Parminder Singh and Ramsharan dead on arrival.
Senior administrative and police officials, including Saharanpur District Magistrate Arvind Chauhan and Senior Superintendent of Police Abhinandan Singh, visited the hospital to assess the condition of the injured and oversee medical arrangements. The bodies of the deceased were subsequently sent for post-mortem examination as authorities continue their formal inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
