Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Haryana is set to launch a special intensive revision of its electoral rolls after a gap of nearly 24 years. Following the directives of the Election Commission of India, this comprehensive campaign will run from June 15 to July 14, 2026, featuring door-to-door voter verification at the booth level. The final publication of the updated electoral roll is scheduled for September 22, 2026.
Haryana Chief Minister and state officials are prioritizing this drive after the Chief Electoral Officer, A. Srinivas, chaired a review meeting on Wednesday with all Deputy Commissioners and District Election Officers via video conferencing. During the session, the CEO expressed concern over the slow progress of electoral roll mapping across the state, which currently stands at just 64.26%. Performance is particularly lagging in Faridabad, Gurugram, Sonipat, Panipat, and Panchkula, where mapping is below 60%. To address this, officials have been instructed to engage with Resident Welfare Associations to boost public participation, and the CEO announced personal visits to these districts next week.
To facilitate voters, enumeration forms will be available in Hindi and can be downloaded from the official website starting June 5, 2026. If a family is absent, Booth Level Officers are mandated to visit the household at least three times and gather information from neighbours to identify shifted, deceased, or duplicate voters. Any adult family member can sign and submit the form on behalf of the household. For online applicants, physical verification by a BLO remains mandatory. Additionally, the names of voters excluded from the draft list will be displayed at Panchayat Bhawans, urban local body offices, and Block Development and Panchayat Officer offices, as well as on official websites, alongside the reasons for omission.
The CEO revealed that Haryana’s electoral data currently contains about 18% logical errors, primarily consisting of incorrect names and spelling mistakes, which is significantly higher than other states. As of May 21, 2026, Haryana has 2,06,52,760 registered voters and 20,629 polling stations, with Fatehabad district leading the state at an 87.44% mapping rate. To support the public, dedicated helpdesks linked to the helpline number 1950 will be set up at all district headquarters and assembly constituencies. In a structural first, the Election Commission has appointed Divisional Commissioners to act as Roll Observers to ensure absolute transparency and strict monitoring throughout the intensive revision.
