Haryana Launches ‘Zero Preventable Maternal Death Fortnight’ to Enhance Maternal Healthcare Services

Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh) —Haryana Health Minister Aarti Singh Rao announced that the state government is committed to providing timely, high-quality, and comprehensive maternal health services to every pregnant woman. To strengthen maternal healthcare and further reduce the maternal mortality rate, the National Health Mission (NHM) Haryana will observe ‘Zero Preventable Maternal Death Fortnight’ across all districts from July 7 to July 22. The Health Minister directed officials to intensify community outreach to ensure no expectant mother is left without critical antenatal care or institutional delivery services.

Rao appealed to both public and private healthcare providers to work in close coordination during the fortnight to ensure safe and quality care. Families were also urged to support pregnant women in attending regular antenatal check-ups, recognizing early warning signs, and seeking prompt medical assistance. To ensure effective implementation, NHM Haryana Mission Director Dr. R.S. Dhillon held detailed review meetings with all Civil Surgeons, instructing them to proactively identify high-risk pregnancies, strengthen referral services, and maintain round-the-clock readiness at First Referral Units.

Special emphasis during the campaign will be placed on tracking high-risk pregnancies, securing timely transport, ensuring the availability of blood components, and maintaining smooth operations in labour rooms. NHM Director Dr. Virender Yadav shared that the department has collaborated with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Haryana and the Federation of Obstetric and Gynecological Societies of India (FOGSI). As part of this partnership, private doctors associated with these bodies will provide two free post-natal check-ups within seven days of delivery to mitigate health risks for lactating mothers.
