Haryana Athletes Making a Global Mark: Minister Vipul Goel

Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Haryana’s Minister for Urban Local Bodies, Vipul Goel, stated that while Haryana was historically known primarily for its soldiers and farmers, it has now firmly established itself as a global powerhouse in sports. Speaking on Saturday at the Sports, Fitness and Infrastructure Expo held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, the minister emphasized that athletes from the state continue to bring international acclaim to India.

Visiting the Haryana Pavilion at the expo, Minister Goel inspected displays detailing the achievements of top sports stars and interacted with department officials, coaches, and young athletes. He commended the state government’s comprehensive sports policy, noting that it has created a highly favorable ecosystem that secures a bright future for aspiring competitors.

Highlighting the state’s outsized contributions, Minister Goel pointed out that despite accounting for just two percent of India’s geographical area, Haryana consistently leads the nation in bringing home international medals. He attributed this ongoing success to the strategic vision of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and the supportive measures implemented under the state’s sports framework.

Addressing the athletes present, the minister urged them to stay dedicated to their training and focus entirely on winning medals, reassuring them that the state government fully back their efforts with top-tier infrastructure, modern equipment, building new stadiums, and providing generous award incentives. He noted the strong performance of Haryana’s athletes in major international competitions like the Commonwealth Games, encouraging them to continue representing the nation with pride.

The event saw attendance from several dignitaries, including Deputy Director of the Sports Department (Rohtak Division) Sunita Khatri, Sonipat District Sports Officer Manoj Kumar, alongside numerous coaches, officials, and athletes.
