Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a renewed spell of monsoon showers across Punjab and Chandigarh, issuing a Yellow Alert for August 3 and 4 as several districts are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.
Weather officials have advised residents to remain cautious, particularly during lightning activity, and avoid venturing into flooded areas or open spaces during adverse weather conditions.
Rainfall Likely to Ease Humid Conditions
According to the latest forecast, rainfall is expected to continue across much of the region on August 5 and 6 as well. While widespread showers are likely, the intensity is expected to be lower than during the initial two days of the alert.
The upcoming spell is likely to bring down daytime temperatures, offering relief from the persistent heat and humidity that has gripped the region over the past few days.
Chandigarh Records Above-Normal Temperature
Chandigarh continued to witness warm and humid weather on Sunday, with the maximum temperature reaching 35.2°C, around 2°C above the seasonal average. The minimum temperature settled at 27.4°C, which was also slightly above normal. The city received only a negligible amount of rainfall during the previous 24 hours.
Bathinda Remains the Hottest in Punjab
Across Punjab, temperatures remained elevated ahead of the expected weather change. Bathinda recorded the state’s highest maximum temperature at 36.5°C, followed by Patiala (35.4°C), Amritsar (35.1°C) and Ludhiana (35°C).
Although most districts experienced dry weather, isolated rainfall was reported in a few places. Nangal received 22.5 mm of rain, while Barnala recorded 2 mm during the last 24 hours.
Authorities Urge Public to Remain Alert
Meteorologists believe the fresh spell of rain will improve weather conditions by reducing temperatures and easing humidity levels. However, they have also warned of possible waterlogging in low-lying areas, slippery roads and traffic disruptions during periods of heavy rainfall.
The weather department has appealed to the public to keep track of official forecasts, avoid unnecessary travel during intense showers and follow all safety advisories issued by the local administration.
