Former Deputy Speaker Dies; Police Recover Note From Party Office

Birbhum (Rajeev Sharma): Asish Bandyopadhyay, former Trinamool Congress MLA from Rampurhat and former Deputy Speaker of the West Bengal Assembly, was found dead at a party office in Birbhum, according to district police.

Police said Bandyopadhyay was found hanging inside the office. A note was recovered during the initial examination of the scene, in which he reportedly stated that no one was responsible for his death.

The discovery has prompted a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the former legislator’s death. Officers are examining the location and the available evidence as part of the inquiry.

Suicide note recovered

Birbhum district police said the note recovered from the premises contained a statement indicating that Bandyopadhyay did not hold anyone responsible for his death.

Investigators are assessing the note along with other circumstances surrounding the incident. Police have not announced any conclusion regarding the reasons behind the death.

Former Rampurhat legislator

Bandyopadhyay was a senior political figure in Birbhum and had represented Rampurhat in the West Bengal Assembly on behalf of the Trinamool Congress.

He also served as Deputy Speaker of the state Assembly during his political career.

The incident has drawn attention within West Bengal’s political circles, with further information expected as authorities continue their investigation.

Police are yet to provide additional details about the events preceding Bandyopadhyay’s death.
