Five GTA Men Face Trial in Alleged Kidnapping and Attempted Murder at Abandoned Orillia Gas Station

Orillia, Ontario (Rajeev Sharma): Five men from the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) are facing trial after being charged in connection with the alleged kidnapping and attempted murder of a Mississauga man at an abandoned gas station in downtown Orillia.

According to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the incident occurred on September 27, 2025, when officers responded to a report of suspicious activity at a vacant gas station located at the corner of Colborne Street East and Peter Street South. Police found a man bound and suffering from serious injuries. The victim was transported to hospital for emergency treatment and survived the attack.

Following an extensive investigation, OPP charged Surjit Singh Bains (62), Gergy Anthony Gorburn (51), Manraj Mann (31), Dwayne Pennant (41), and Baltej Sandhu (30) with multiple offences.

The accused are facing charges including attempted murder, kidnapping, forcible confinement, aggravated assault, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, careless storage of a firearm, and break-and-enter to commit an indictable offence.

Investigators have stated that the incident was targeted and that there was no ongoing threat to public safety. The motive behind the alleged attack has not been publicly disclosed, and the investigation remains active.

The case has now been committed to trial in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. As the matter is before the courts, the allegations have not been proven, and all five accused are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
