Patiala (Balwinder Singh)— Haryana Governor Prof. Aseem Kumar Ghosh addressed a national conference titled “War Against Drugs” at the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law in Patiala on Saturday, urging youth to lead the charge against substance abuse. Speaking alongside Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and First Lady of Haryana Mitra Ghosh, Governor Ghosh called for a collective societal effort to root out addiction, suggesting that if every young person inspires ten others to join the campaign, it will rapidly transform into a powerful public movement.
Emphasizing that youth represent the nation’s greatest strength, the Governor noted that addiction directly undermines young people’s energy, damages family structures, and weakens society’s foundation. He asserted that combating drug abuse is not solely the responsibility of law enforcement agencies, but a shared duty involving families, educational institutions, social organizations, and every citizen. He encouraged young individuals facing academic pressure, employment hurdles, or loneliness to seek guidance and open communication rather than resorting to harmful substances.
Governor Ghosh appealed directly to parents and guardians to provide emotional support, time, and trust to their children, highlighting that early intervention and empathetic communication can prevent youth from falling into addiction. He added that individuals struggling with drug dependency require rehabilitation, medical care, and empathy rather than social rejection.
Underlining various national initiatives led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi—such as Fit India, Khelo India, Skill India, Startup India, and Viksit Bharat 2047—the Governor pointed out that extensive developmental opportunities exist for the country’s youth. He added that athletes from Haryana and Punjab have consistently brought international pride to the nation through sports and expressed confidence that the region’s youth will demonstrate similar determination to build a drug-free society.
The event was attended by Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law Prof. Jai S. Singh, vice-chancellors from several other universities, and distinguished guests.
