Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): In a significant move to upgrade healthcare services, the Haryana government has made a historic decision to elevate the educational qualification required for Operation Theatre (OT) Assistants. The Operation Theatre Assistant Welfare Association, Haryana, has warmly welcomed the decision to transition the minimum qualification from a Grade 12 science background to a specialized “B.Sc. in OT Technology.”
A delegation led by the association’s president, Rahul Jaglan, and general secretary, Rajinder Singh, met with Health Minister Aarti Singh Rao in Chandigarh to express their profound gratitude for this landmark decision. Association members highlighted that this shift is not merely an educational reform but a transformative step toward modernizing and strengthening public healthcare infrastructure across Haryana. The upgrade is expected to substantially enhance the quality of surgical services in government hospitals and significantly improve patient safety.
Health Minister Aarti Singh Rao noted that under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, hospitals are experiencing a continuous increase in cashless surgical workloads. In such an environment, having technically proficient staff capable of operating highly advanced and sophisticated surgical equipment has become an absolute necessity. She added that the state government decided to implement the “B.Sc. in OT Technology” requirement specifically to meet these evolving medical demands.
Emphasizing the critical role of these professionals, the Health Minister stated that the operation theatre serves as the backbone of any hospital or medical institution. OT Assistants are the technically qualified and responsible personnel essential for ensuring smooth, safe, and effective surgical operations. In modern medicine, a successful surgery relies heavily on a highly skilled operation theatre team, and this policy change will make the existing healthcare framework much more capable. The minister concluded by calling upon the association members to continue serving the public with utmost dedication, commitment, and professional excellence.
