New Delhi (Gurpreet Singh): The results of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) Election 2026 have been declared, with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) winning three of the four key posts. ABVP’s Yash Dabas was elected President, while Riya Chhawdi won the Secretary post and Lakshya Raj Singh emerged victorious as Joint Secretary.
The biggest upset came in the Vice-President contest, where independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen secured a decisive victory with 30,615 votes. He defeated ABVP’s Ishu Maurya, who received 16,910 votes, while NSUI’s Vir Chatrath polled 4,313 votes.

Yash Dabas of ABVP won the President’s post with 24,576 votes, defeating NSUI’s Vijay Shankar Meena, who secured 22,523 votes.
In the Vice-President election, Deepanshu Shokeen won as an independent candidate with 30,615 votes. Ishu Maurya finished second with 16,910 votes, followed by NSUI’s Vir Chatrath with 4,313 votes.
ABVP’s Riya Chhawdi was elected Secretary with 21,650 votes. She defeated NSUI candidate Namrata Chaudhary, who received 14,869 votes.
For the Joint Secretary post, ABVP’s Lakshya Raj Singh secured 16,615 votes to finish first. Independent candidate Vishesh Yadav received 15,778 votes, while NSUI’s Gopal Choudhary polled 15,206 votes.

DUSU Election 2026: Voter Turnout
Polling for the DUSU elections was held across 52 centres on September 18. The election recorded a voter turnout of 40.46 per cent, with reports describing it as the highest turnout in three years. More than 1.51 lakh students were eligible to vote.
Counting began on September 19 at the University Sports Stadium’s Multipurpose Hall in North Campus and continued through 20 rounds before the final results were declared.
DUSU Election 2026: Independent Candidate Deepanshu Shokeen Wins
The Vice-President result emerged as the most notable result of the election. Deepanshu Shokeen, who contested as an independent, polled 30,615 votes — significantly ahead of ABVP’s Ishu Maurya.
Shokeen’s victory came after his previous association with NSUI. His independent campaign made the Vice-President contest different from the other three central-panel races, all of which were won by ABVP candidates.
DUSU Election 2026: NSUI Draws A Blank
The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) failed to win any of the four central-panel posts.
Its closest contest came in the President’s race, where Vijay Shankar Meena received 22,523 votes against Yash Dabas’ 24,576. NSUI’s candidates finished behind the winners in the Vice-President, Secretary and Joint Secretary contests as well.
The results also came amid restrictions on victory celebrations. The Delhi High Court had directed that victory processions not be taken out on university premises, roads or hostels following the declaration of results.
