Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday said his government had fulfilled 70 commitments made in its election manifesto, while work on another 143 was underway. Addressing a programme of the Kashyap Mehra community in Dharamkot, Punjab, he highlighted Haryana’s recruitment policy, procurement of crops at minimum support price (MSP) and education initiatives for economically weaker students.
Saini also called on the Kashyap community to prioritise education and strengthen social unity, describing its traditions of service, sacrifice and patriotism as an inspiration for future generations.
The event was held on October 31, the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Saini paid tribute to Patel and recalled his role in integrating more than 500 princely states into a united India.
Saini Highlights Haryana’s Governance Record
The Chief Minister said the Haryana government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, was working to fulfil its commitments to the public. He said the administration’s focus was on delivering the benefits of government schemes to farmers, women, young people and economically disadvantaged families.
Saini claimed that 70 commitments had been completed, with implementation work continuing on 143 others. He said the government’s objective was to translate promises into tangible benefits rather than limit itself to announcements.
Haryana Government’s MSP Procurement Policy
Saini said the Haryana government had fulfilled its promise to purchase all crops grown in the state at the minimum support price.
He said the decision was taken after the government assumed office and a notification was issued to formalise it. According to the Chief Minister, the policy was intended to ensure farmers received the value of their hard work and did not face unnecessary difficulties while selling their produce.
‘No Recommendations or Bribes’ in Government Recruitment
Highlighting recruitment reforms, Saini said government jobs in Haryana were being offered on merit without recommendations or bribes, using the phrase “bina parchi, bina kharchi”.
He cited the recent selection of 102 candidates in the Haryana Civil Services (HCS) examination, saying the successful candidates included young people from ordinary and financially disadvantaged families.
He said the recruitment process had created opportunities for candidates whose parents work as labourers or run small businesses to secure senior government positions through their own efforts and qualifications.
Mission Buniyad and Super-100 Open Doors for Students
Saini also highlighted Mission Buniyad and Super-100, programmes aimed at helping talented students from government schools prepare for competitive examinations.
He said these initiatives provide opportunities to students whose families may not be able to afford expensive coaching.
According to the Chief Minister, 276 of the 400 students in the Super-100 programme secured admission to institutions such as the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs). He also said 65 students who appeared for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) secured admission to MBBS courses.
Saini said such initiatives were helping students from economically weaker backgrounds pursue careers in engineering and medicine.
Saini Calls for Punjab to Become Drug-Free by 2029
Addressing the drug abuse problem in Punjab, the Haryana Chief Minister said efforts were needed to connect young people with education, employment and development opportunities.
He referred to a goal of making Punjab drug-free by 2029, which he associated with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Saini said tackling substance abuse was essential to protecting the future of Punjab’s youth.
He also criticised previous political administrations in Punjab and called for decisions focused on the state’s development and the opportunities available to young people. He said the BJP was working towards development, good governance and a better future for the state.
Why Saini Highlighted the Kashyap Community’s Heritage
Saini described the Kashyap community’s history as one shaped by service, hard work, sacrifice and patriotism. He referred to figures and traditions associated with Maharishi Kashyap, Nishadraj, Bhai Himmat Singh and Baba Moti Ram Mehra as sources of inspiration.
He recalled Nishadraj’s assistance to Lord Ram and Baba Moti Ram Mehra’s service to the Sahibzadas, the sons of Guru Gobind Singh, during a difficult period. He also referred to the observance of December 26 as Veer Bal Diwas to remember the Sahibzadas’ sacrifice.
The Chief Minister said Punjab and Haryana shared a deep cultural and historical bond, describing their relationship as two heartbeats within one heart. He said preserving their shared heritage and promoting mutual respect were collective responsibilities.
Saini urged members of the Kashyap community to focus on children’s education, strengthen community organisation and contribute actively to nation-building.
