Indore (Gurpreet Singh): A 24-year-old man allegedly died by suicide at a de-addiction centre in Indore on Saturday, triggering panic among other inmates, around 45 of whom left the facility, police said.
A video purportedly showing inmates walking out of the centre has also circulated on social media.
Raoji Bazar police station house officer Manish Mishra told PTI that the man had gone to his room during a meditation session, saying he was feeling restless. His body was later found hanging, he said.
Police have not yet established the circumstances behind his death. No suicide note was found at the spot, Mishra added.
Why Did Around 45 Inmates Leave the Indore De-Addiction Centre?
According to Mishra, the incident caused panic among the other inmates when the centre’s staff began taking the man’s body to a hospital.
“The centre’s staff were taking the man’s body to the hospital when other inmates panicked. They opened the main gate and left the facility,” he said.
The centre’s management initially told police that 70 inmates had left. However, a check of the attendance register indicated that the number was around 45, Mishra said.
Several of the inmates have since reached their homes, he added.
Police are investigating the man’s death and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
