Ceasefire Holds but Gulf Tensions Rise as Iran Targets Vessels in Hormuz

Washington/Tehran (Rajeev Sharma): The uneasy calm in the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict has been shaken by fresh maritime incidents, even as the United States signaled that its ceasefire arrangement with Iran will continue without a fixed deadline.

US President Donald Trump stated that the truce would remain in place for now, despite uncertainty surrounding diplomatic efforts. Planned talks in Islamabad have been delayed after Iran showed hesitation in rejoining negotiations, prompting Washington to pause Vice President JD Vance’s proposed visit.

Meanwhile, reports from Iranian media indicate that the country’s Revolutionary Guard has carried out another attack in the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route. The vessel, identified as “Euphoria,” was reportedly struck and left immobilized near Iranian waters, though details remain unclear.

This marks the third such incident in recent days, with two other ships previously seized in the same region. These actions have heightened concerns over the safety of international shipping lanes and the potential impact on global oil supplies.

Iran has acknowledged the continuation of the ceasefire but has not confirmed participation in any upcoming talks, reflecting ongoing mistrust between the two sides.

The situation remains delicate, with diplomatic channels under strain and military tensions simmering in the background. Observers warn that any further escalation in the Strait of Hormuz could complicate efforts to stabilize the region and prolong the conflict.
