New Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): India produced a strong showing on Day 7 of the 2026 Asian Games, with the women’s kabaddi team claiming gold while the shooting and athletics contingents added silver medals to the country’s tally.
The women’s kabaddi team delivered a composed performance to finish at the top of the podium, giving India another major gold medal at the continental competition. The victory further strengthened the country’s campaign in one of its traditionally successful sports.
India also finished second in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions team event. Tilottama Sen, Vidarsa Vinod and Ashi Chouksey combined for a score of 1763, which earned them the silver medal.
China dominated the team competition with a Games-record 1773 points, while Kazakhstan secured bronze after finishing with 1754. India’s shooters nevertheless had plenty to celebrate from the individual qualification.
Ashi Chouksey and Tilottama Sen both produced scores of 395 and secured spots in the individual final. Vidarsa Vinod also showed resilience during the qualification round, finishing sixth with an overall score of 588.
The day’s other major achievement came in the marathon, where Sawan Barwal won silver in the men’s event. His podium finish ended a 44-year wait for India to win a medal in the Asian Games marathon.
India’s previous marathon medal at the Asian Games had come at the 1982 edition in Delhi. Barwal’s performance therefore added a significant milestone to the country’s athletics campaign.
With gold in kabaddi and silver medals in shooting and marathon, India continued to make its presence felt across different disciplines as the Asian Games moved into another crucial phase.
