Calgary (Rajeev Sharma): Alberta has launched a new online employment platform aimed at helping job seekers find suitable opportunities while giving employers faster access to qualified workers.
The WorkFirst Alberta Talent Exchange uses technology to match candidates with employers based on their skills and experience rather than relying primarily on traditional job titles. The province says the approach could help employers identify capable workers whose abilities may not be fully reflected on conventional resumes.
The platform is part of Alberta’s nearly $250-million investment in transforming employment services under WorkFirst Alberta, which is designed to help residents secure and maintain meaningful employment.
Assisted Living and Social Services Minister Nathan Neudorf said the new system is intended to make the recruitment process more efficient while connecting employers with people who have the skills required for available positions.
Platform already being used by employers
Talent Exchange has been available since June 2026 and is being used by employers in sectors including construction, health care and social services, hospitality and recreation, wholesale trade and public administration.
As participation grows, the province expects the platform to adapt to changing workforce requirements and labour-market conditions.
Jeff Doucet, CEO of Thrive, said the skills-based approach allows employers to consider a broader pool of candidates while helping job seekers find opportunities that match their abilities.
Broader employment support
Talent Exchange is one component of the wider WorkFirst Alberta program, which provides employment assistance tailored to individual circumstances.
The program includes career planning, assistive technology and supported job placements, along with specialized services for groups such as people with disabilities, women, youth, veterans and others facing barriers to employment.
WorkFirst Alberta also provides additional assistance intended to address challenges that can affect a person’s ability to enter or remain in the workforce. These services include child care support, transportation assistance for people with mobility needs and mental health services.
The Talent Exchange is available to employers and job seekers throughout Alberta, with employers able to enrol through the Thrive Career Wellness Platform to begin accessing the service.
