Haryana: Bhiwani Gets Development Projects Worth Rs 142 Crore, Treated Wastewater Irrigation Project to Benefit 5,300 Acres

Bhiwani (Balwinder Singh): Bhiwani district in Haryana is set to receive development projects worth more than Rs 142 crore, including a major treated wastewater irrigation initiative expected to benefit around 5,300 acres of agricultural land.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini inaugurated six completed projects and laid the foundation stones for two others on October 30. The developments involve a combined investment of over Rs 142 crore, Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Shruti Choudhry said in a statement.

Of the eight projects, six have been completed at a cost of Rs 133.66 crore, while the remaining two projects will be developed with an investment of more than Rs 8.46 crore.

Rs 84.33 Crore Irrigation Project to Benefit Farmers in Bhiwani

One of the key projects inaugurated by the Chief Minister is a treated wastewater reuse initiative worth more than Rs 84.33 crore.

The project will utilise treated water from the 30 million litres per day (MLD) capacity Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) located on the Bhiwani-Charkhi Dadri Road for agricultural irrigation.

According to Shruti Choudhry, the initiative is expected to provide an alternative irrigation source to farmers and reduce dependence on groundwater.

Around 5,300 acres of agricultural land are expected to benefit from the project. The targeted villages include Haluwas, Prahladgarh, Nimriwali, Dhana Narsan, Roopgarh and Dhirana Kalan, along with surrounding areas.

How Will Treated Wastewater Help Farmers?

The project aims to reuse treated sewage water for agricultural purposes instead of relying entirely on conventional water sources.

The initiative is expected to support groundwater conservation while improving the utilisation of available water resources. It also aims to encourage environmentally sustainable agricultural practices in the district.

With treated water being made available for irrigation, farmers in the identified areas will have an additional source to meet their agricultural water requirements.

What Did Haryana Minister Shruti Choudhry Say?

Thanking Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini for the development projects, Shruti Choudhry said their implementation would give fresh momentum to Bhiwani’s development.

She said the Haryana government was working towards effective water resource management while keeping water conservation, environmental protection and farmers’ welfare in focus.

The minister also appealed to farmers to recognise the importance of every drop of water, use irrigation resources judiciously and actively participate in water conservation initiatives.

The treated wastewater project is among the key initiatives aimed at expanding alternative irrigation sources and reducing pressure on groundwater resources in Bhiwani district.
