Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): Khadoor Sahib Member of Parliament Amritpal Singh will contest the upcoming 2027 Punjab Legislative Assembly elections from two separate constituencies, marking a major strategic push by the newly formed Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De). The political outfit plans to field him in both the Majha and Malwa regions to broaden its electoral reach across the state. Senior party leader and Dakha legislator Manpreet Singh Ayali shared the collective leadership’s decision in Chandigarh, confirming that the dual-seat strategy is central to their provincial campaign roadmap.
While Ayali declined to name the selected constituencies, he noted that the formal announcement rests with the party’s parliamentary board following internal evaluations. Several seats have surfaced in preliminary discussions, including Khadoor Sahib in Majha alongside Malwa constituencies such as Rampura Phul and Dhuri—the latter currently represented by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Establishing a strong footing in Malwa carries immense electoral weight, as the belt encompasses 69 of the 117 assembly segments and serves as a decisive battleground for statewide dominance.
Amritpal Singh, who secured the Khadoor Sahib parliamentary seat with a substantial victory margin during the 2024 general election while detained in Assam’s Dibrugarh prison, has already been positioned as the party’s chief ministerial candidate for the 2027 polls. Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) has accelerated its ground-level campaign machinery across multiple districts, rolling out early candidate nominations and integrating several former lawmakers and community organizers into its ranks to build momentum ahead of its first assembly contest.
