Langley (Richa Walia): In a major recognition of British Columbia’s political and public-service history, the provincial government has officially named the 16-kilometre Surrey-Langley SkyTrain extension the Dave Barrett Extension, honouring former premier Dave Barrett and his role in expanding public transit and public services across the province.
The naming comes as construction of the long-awaited rapid-transit project advances along the Fraser Highway corridor, with guideway installation now more than 60% complete. The extension will connect King George Station in Surrey with Langley City Centre, adding eight stations and bringing SkyTrain service directly to rapidly growing communities south of the Fraser River.
Service is expected to begin in 2029, with the project projected to significantly improve connections to employment, education, housing and services across Metro Vancouver.
